For some reason this Belichick/ Ryan feud will not go away. I know Belichick said he was wrong, but immediately after the game, Belichick had said the Patriots were improperly penalized, but the next day he said the penalty was justified. And now he is pointing a finger at the Jets.
Asked today about Belichick's accusation, Rex Ryan fired back tersely.
"That's not true," the Jets coach said. "He's got to make up his mind. Was he aware of this thing? Was it second level, all this kind of jazz? Or now the story is that we did it. Okay, I got you. The fact is we're moving on. We earned that victory, plain and simple, and we're focused on Cincinnati now."
But the most clever thing I think Ryan did was recognize that the Patriots were doing the push move and told the refs about it before the game. That's incredible scouting and just really smart to do, since it obviously led to a penalty. The Patriots have been doing the move all year, and when Ryan brought it up to the refs, the refs warned the Patriots and players about the rule, they still did it, the penalty was called, and the Jets won the game. Rex Ryan outsmarted Belichick. It wasn't a "bullshit" call as BMack say, and you don't need to emphasize it being the first time this penalty was called as the captain says, Ryan noticed the Patriots doing something wrong and made it known. What a good coach does.
It's the next week, so who cares. But sly move Rex, sly move.
