Dowling was noted for having spent most of his senior season with Virginia on the bench with injuries. He wasn't considered a first round talent because he was labeled as injury prone. Bill decided to roll the dice on Dowling and lost. I can't be too critical of this strategy as Rob Gronkowski slid on the draft chart for the same reason. It's just frustrating to invest something as valuable as the 33rd overall pick into a player and get so little production in return.
