NFL Changes 2 Rules

First off there is no more Tuck Rule. Yes, it sure as hell helped the Patriots, but I think we can all agree it's a dumb rule and I'm fine with it being gone. The 2nd one is much more controversial. The rule prohibits runners and defenders from leading with the crown of their helmets.

I think the 2nd one is dumb. I don't know how you are going to judge that each time, and it's going to completely get out of control. These rules are going too far, but it's everyone's fault (except the fans). It's the players fault, because of their nonstop lawsuits against the NFL. It's forces the NFL hands into making it look like they give a shit that you drool the rest of your life. It's the owners/leagues fault that this wasn't dealt with earlier, and that they sign these huge contracts with company's that make it tougher to get the safest equipment you can get.

I could go on and on, but the one's that are going to lose out are the fans, because soon we won't have the sport that we all love to much.

I heard on the radio someone advocating for smaller pads in the NFL. Basically being decked out like a tank people feel invincible.

Rugby was brought up to compare. They do not have the pads football does and have no where near the injuries. It only takes one crappy tackle attempt to get you to realize tackle properly or your going to break your neck or something else.

Thoughts?

My problem with comparing those two sports is that there aren't too many rugby guys that are 300 pounds and run the way these guys can. The impact is just much harder in the NFL, in my opinion. Granted I don't know a ton about rugby, but I can't see the athleticism being on the same level

Just looked up some players on the English rugby team. Couple of guys over 250, most over 6 feet, and one of them is 6' 6". They run around all game, so let's not question their athleticism.

That being said, football is a sprinting sport. Rugby is non-stop running. So a football player runs faster so also hits harder.

and with no helmet, all it takes is a mistake or a bit of bad luck and you'll have people dying on the field.

and don't completely excuse the fans. We want the game as hard hitting and fast as possible.

Wait, no. I am not saying get rid of pads, just make them smaller. Especially the helmet, it is necessary part of the game. I think with a little less protection the players would be smarter about it.

It is a straight up and down sprinting you can't take away helmets or padding altogether.

I think we should get rid of air bags and seatbelts. I think with a little less protection drivers would be smarter about it.

That analogy would make sense if you are talking about stunt drivers I guess. And yeah they would drive differently if they were in normal car or one that instantly encased in foam a la Demolition Man.

Relating to normal everyday drivers does not work.

That's true about stunt drivers. Normal drivers avoid collisions with other cars. Football players seek them out.
