Ed Reed to Houston

Another one of my Patriots off season theories bit the dust as Schefter is reporting that Ed Reed has come to terms with the Houston Texans. There's no exact terms of the deal, but according to reports, the Texans offered Reed a three-year deal in the salary range of $4 million annually, although Reed has been seeking a salary similar to the $7.2 million he earned last season.

I guess we'll see what the final price comes out to be, but I'm disappointed the Patriots didn't seem to make a run at getting Ed Reed. I'm not upset about Adrian Wilson, in some ways he's a better fit than Reed. We don't need to move Devin McCourty around, he's got some nice career accolades, he's the same age as Reed and probably will be a fraction of the money that Reed is going to get. It's a smart and sensible signing, but I was hoping for something flashier out of the Patriots. Picking up a talent like Ed Reed would make me feel a little better about losing Wes Welker. Free Agency isn't over and I think the Patriots still have some money to spend (reports of the Patriots salary cap figures are soft of all over the place, it gets confusing when you work in the space they got back from the Fanene deal last season), but there's no names still out on the market that are really going to get me excited or feel satisfied with how this free agency period has gone. It's also a little bothersome that Reed is going to a team we'll be playing in the regular season and possibly in the playoffs as well next season. If he ended up somewhere in the NFC where we'd only see him every 4 years I'd be happier about this.

Some of the really early reports mentioned that the Patriots were interested in Dumervil. The more recent reports regarding Dumervil don't mention them. Maybe they got outbid or weren't really interested in the first place.

There's been some confusion about Sanders. He came up and visited the Patriots a week ago. There were reports that the Patriots signed him to an offer sheet on his third round tender. (I believe that means that the Steelers get to match the offer and if they don't the Patriots surrender their 3rd round pick to the Steelers) Later Schefter and others said that there was no offer made to Sanders and the Patriots were still mulling it over. Nothing new since then really.

There's still some speculation that they'll pick up a DE since they had Freeney and Abraham visit New England and supposedly had interest in Elvis Dumervil. Any of these names would be nice, but it's still not something that's gonna salvage the offseason for me.

the entire market is pretty stagnant right now.

i have been happy with most of the moves, aside from wide receiver.

any news on ridley and his concussion? i am curious if they will chase another running back in the draft.

"Other than that, Mrs. Kennedy, how was your trip to Dallas?"

I agree, but letting Welker walk was such a big blow that it's made it really difficult for me to feel good about this free agency period. I also had some high initial expectations about what players we could land. Danny Amendola and Adrian Wilson just aren't doing it for me.

LOL.

hopefully adrian wilson is the reincarnation of rodney harrison.

and while i question the welker/amendola swap, i am curious to see how amendola will do with brady. he didn't get the number of targets welker got, but his drop percentage was significantly lower. and the durability issue is a little misleading since amendola's season ending injury was in week 1 and welker's was in week 17.
