Are The Celtics Better Without Rondo?

I told you these article would pop up, and it only took 4 wins and they are already here. ESPN has an article up today talking this very subject (CLICK HERE to read).

Listen, if you are already buying this nonsense this early you probably rode the short bus when you were younger. There are literally tons of explanations as to why the Celtics are playing better without Rondo, while still not being a better team without him.

1. Teams don't know how to play them - Everything has changed. The whole offense went through Rondo, so teams now don't really know where the ball is going to go. This could all change in a couple weeks when teams get video of how the Celtics are running their "new" offense.

2. Post Super Star Surge - We have seen this happen before. A big time player goes down, and the team responds by going on a winning streak. It's similar to firing a coach, and seeing a team rally, but it doesn't mean it will last.

3. Schedule - The win over the Heat was nice, no doubt, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. The Celtics have yet to go on the road, and their only other impressive win was against the Clippers who had to fly accross the country, and almost came back at the end. I'm not taking anything away from the wins, but it's such a small sample size.

My main point here is that it's just too early, and to start making the point that the Celtics are some how better off without their best player is just ludicrous at this time. If the Celtics go to the NBA Finals or something like that then we can talk, but the bottom line is that this is a dumb discussion, and I hope all of you don't buy into it..... yet.

Im actually shocked you aren't leading the celtics are better without Rondo campaign. Something you left out is great coaching, much like how Belichick rallied the Patriots when Brady was out, Doc is doing with the Celtics.

I know there were a couple people who wanted Brady out of there after Cassel led them to 11 wins, but for the most part everyone agreed. The difference between Brady and Rondo is that Brady is a likable human, while Rondo isn't liked and doesn't care to be liked. That is why you see all these articles.

I left the Doc thing out, because of the small sample size. I obviously think he is a great coach, but that would hold even more true if they keep winning.

Bottom line for everything is that it's just too damn early to know anything

I recall during the original big three days that there was a stat that the Celtics had a better record when Larry Bird was out vs. Robert Parish.

Did any reasonable person think that Parish was more important to the team's success than Bird? I doubt it.

There are a lot of reasons for a team doing well when their top player is out. One is that the other players realize they have to step up their game in order to compensate.

I hope the Celtics step it up with Rondo out. When he comes back they'll be that much better.

I'm interested to see how the Lakers are going to defend us, considering Kobe can't do his patented "sag-off Rondo and hang in the lane" defense. Then again, I guess if he's covering Courtney Lee, there's no point in daring him to shoot from outside either...
