More On Edwin Jackson

Now that every top tier free agent is gone, the next level is Edwin Jackson and Roy Oswalt are the 2 prized possessions.

The Red Sox apparently offered a contract to Jackson yesterday, and although I would love him, I just don't see how the Sox are going to pull this one out. Today, his agent Scott Boras has said that Jackson's willing to accept a one year deal, meaning, all the offers we got were shit and we are looking for top dollar.

I've read that Jackson is also leaning to stay in the NL over the AL. Which you can't blame him, the NL is easier and you don't have the media presence that you would have in Boston.

Although I like Jackson, I'm going to saddle back a little and not act like we are getting an "Ace" here, we are getting a very good 4th or 5th starter. Jackson can throw over 200 innings, but he is also a huge risk when he is out there, he walks a ton of people and can be out by the 6th inning. He has AJ Burnett syndrome where there is always a chance he goes out there and throws a hell of a game.

I'd prefer Jackson, but I'm starting to believe that won't happen.

I agree that you can't expect Jackson to be anything more then what he is, which like you said is a 4th starter.

Still, he gives the Sox something they don't have, which is a guy who can stay healthy and pitch 200 innings. For a one year deal (much like what I thought with Madson) I think it's totally worth it, and I much rather him over Oswalt, or keeping our rotation as is.

yea, but that is the most important thing about him. That he can pitch 200+ innings. Also, we've heard that before..... with lackey

this is true, like you said the expectations should be a lot lower though. Jackson is a 4, if he can get 10-12 wins and have an era around 4.00-4.3 and pitch 200 innings I'd be very happy with that.

I saw last night that Oswalt has "no interest" in signing with the Sox...any validity to that? Saw it on CSNNE I believe.

seems to be what MLB Trade Rumors is saying too. I guess he either wants to stay in the NL, or go to the Rangers.

Rumor is the Sox offered 1 year deal for about $5 million
