Celtics vs Hawks Preview

Depth Chart

Boston (PPG)
Atlanta (PPG)
PG R. Rondo 10.5K. Hinrich 10.6
SG R. Allen 16.9J. Johnson 18.5
SF P. Pierce 18.7M. Williams 10.7
PF K. Garnett 14.8J. Smith 16.8
C N. Krstic 8.1A. Horford 15.7

The Celtics are coming off a great win against San Antonio, but always struggle in back to back games especially against young and athletic teams. I know the Celtics were able to prove they can turn it on whenever they want to, but I would like some confirmation with a win tonight. The Hawks are usually a pesky team and with Krstic out that means Al Horford will probably have a big game with Jermaine O'Neal being limited and not much depth.

The key to the game will be KG on Josh Smith. KG always plays a good defensive game against him. Also, if Rondo stays aggressive like he did last night that changes the whole game. I'd like to see Ray have a better shooting night percentage wise.

Celtics: 100-95
Tommy Award: Ray Allen

Sox vs Rangers Preview

Welcome to Opening Day lady and gentleman. The Red Sox kick off the season in Arlington to visit the Rangers and old friend Adrian Beltre. The Sox put Jon Lester against C.J. Wilson. Jon Lester is obviously the ace of our staff, last year he went 19-9 with a 3.25 era and 225 Ks, however Arlington can make even the best pitchers look awful.

However, I don't care about pitching at all this game. It's all about offense and bullpen to me. The starting line up is Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia, Crawford, Gonzalez, Kevin Youkilis, Ortiz, Cameron, Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Marco Scutaro. Which I'm not really a fan of to be honest. I would rather see Crawford, Pedroia, Adrian then Youk and Ellsbury batting last, but what can you do. I just can't wait to see Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez and a healthy offense. I can't wait to see if Bobby Jenks or Dan Wheeler pitches in the 7th or to see if Papelbon doesn't scare us week 1.

I don't think this game will be a pitchers duel as I have no faith in CJ Wilson and for some reason I see Lester shaking off some rust from preseason. Adrian Beltre will get a bit of revenge.

Predictions:
Score: 7-5
WP: Bobby Jenks
Tommy Award: Adrian Gonzalez

Celtics Updates

"I was just with Shaq, we were just working out down in Waltham," said Ainge. "Shaq is either going to play Sunday or Tuesday. … I think that Doc probably — "bleed into the playoffs" — I think is something different than he’s not going to play until the playoffs. But it looks like he’s ready to go Sunday or Tuesday."

Call me crazy but I'm a little skeptical. I want to believe this, but I have heard this soooo many times. The fact is though, we really need Shaq unless we are willing to give up on the 1 seed all together and worry about health. So it's a double edged sword. Seeing what the Celtics can do with the switch on makes me wonder if it's ok for us to kinda coast and do what we did last year.

I don't know whats up with Krstic yet, but it doesn't look good.

Why Not?

Why not watch Zinedine Zidane headbutt the ground

With The 8th Pick In The NFL Draft The Tennessee Titans Select

DP's Pick
Cam Newton QB Auburn

I know, I know, I know Vince Young 2.0, but look at his good looks and that smile. The Titans need a face of the franchise and much like the Falcons did with Matt Ryan after the Michael Vick debacle, the Titans will do it to get passed Vince Young, Jeff Fisher unpleasantness. I don't really buy it, but I guess Cam Newton has a shot of being good. He has a good arm, decent decision making, mobility and toughness. Bud Adams loves these type of players and will be stoked to get a hot at another high boom project.

Bubba Starling Is Pretty Sweet

One of the top baseball prospects in the country Bubba Starling decided he's going to play QB at Nebraska and can run a 4.3 40. Pretty sweet gig right. I have a feeling he will latch on with a baseball team come draft time he's projected to be a top 5 pick. To read more on him click here.

It's kind of amazing to see these kids to have all these options. Personally I would choose baseball because you get the fastest guaranteed money. I know that may sound shitty but it's really not worth risking your career for nothing. Baseball doesn't have age restrictions, so put the football down and get used to your glove for the rest of your life. Plus it's about time we have a star named Bubba.

Man The Yankees Sure Know How To Fill The Stands

Are you fucking kidding me Yankees? This is embarrassing. It's opening day and this is what you give to the world. Honestly, how can you all be so quick to mention 27 championships and forget to show up to OPENING DAY.

I guess they are already flying the white flag because Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez or Cliff Lee are not walking through that door. The Yankees won yesterday, so what. This is a piss poor effort put forward by the most obnoxious fans in the world.

Ridiculous.

Maple Leafs 4, Bruins 3 (SO)

The Bruins finally played someone who played with effort and determination. And they lost. And without some soft goaltending by James Reimer, they would have lost badly.

It's the same laundry list of problems for the Bruins. Not managing the puck well. Not being able to breakout of their own zone. Not hustling for loose pucks. And a boring Power Play.

For about 2 seasons now, the B's have tried the same static, motionless Power Play strategy. How come they haven't tried something different? It's so easy for opposing PK groups to sit in a box formation, and play the predictable passing lanes, allowing the Bruins to pass around the box, but not into it. Moving bodies around moves those lanes around, which forces the penalty killers to move. That can lead to 2-on-1s in shooting areas. That leads to quality shots, which lead to goals.

The Bruins continue to drift toward the playoffs. And if they step it up in the postseason, then great. But I'd rather see them build some good habits now, and try to maintain those habits for an extended period.

Bruins host the Thrashers Saturday afternoon.

107 Celtics, 97 Spurs

No one can really explain how much this game meant to the Celtics. I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is the win that saved their season. The Spurs came in at full strength and the Celtics got Jermaine O'Neal back. The Spurs have the best record in the NBA and the Celtics have been playing like shit lately.

Last night was vintage Celtics. They took the lead in the 3rd and ended it on a 14-3 run and didn't take their foot off the gas until the end of the game. The offense was clean, the defense was tough and stout, last night was a thing of beauty. The only thing that wasn't good was Nenad Krstic's potential devastating injury, we will get back to that when we get the results back.

Back to the game.

The Big 4 played great, Kevin Garnett (20 points, 9-12 FG, 9 rebounds), Paul Pierce (21 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists), Ray Allen had 13 points including a huge 3, and Rajon may have had his best game as a Celtic he had 22 points, 14 assists, 5 rebounds and ZERO turnovers, he seemed to not miss his 17 foot jumper also. Rondo is playing with great confidence and seems to have shook the injury.

Jermaine O'Neal didn't look like Troy Murphy so that's good, he seemed to be moving well and being effective when he was in there. He played 11 minutes and had 5 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist.

The bench was really effective too, Glen Davis had 16 and Jeff Green was very effective with 8 points. Boy he is going to be a great weapon come play off time.

Great win!

The win that saved the season.

See what happens when the switch is turned on.
