Celtics vs Kings Preview

Depth Chart

Boston (PPG)
Sacramento (PPG)
PG R. Rondo 10.4B. Udrih 13.7
SG R. Allen 17.2T. Evans 17.8
SF P. Pierce 19.2O. Casspi 9.2
PF K. Garnett 15.1J. Thompson 8.2
C K. Perkins 5.3D. Cousins 13.5

After seeing the Lakers game (I forget what happened the game before that) you have to believe it when Doc says that this starting 5 has never lost a playoff series. After seeing the performance in LA you have to get excited to these upcoming playoffs. Unfortunately, there are stupid games like this that are inbetween now and then. I don't know why the Kings are bad. They have plenty of talent with Tyreke Evans, Demarcus Cousins, Jason Thompson, etc. they just can't put it together. We can put them as a work in progress, but it seems as if they won't be able to get it together.

The Celtics should own this team barring a beating Lakers lapse, Ray Allen is closing in on Reggie Miller's record and shooting lights out, Paul Pierce is playing terrific and Rondo is playing at an MVP type level and we just got what I consider "the best defensive center in the NBA", plus a lot of motivated bench players. They should be able to work the Kings lack of defensive effort and beat this team handedly.

Celtics 108-87
Tommy Award: Ray Allen

Bruins @ Hurricanes Preview

The Bruins get back to work tonight after the All-Star break. Boston hopes the break hasn't cooled them off at all, as they were 7-3 in their last 10 heading into the break, while Carolina is happy to have the first half over with, because right now they wouldn't even make the playoffs (1 point behind Atlanta for the last spot).

Actually there are a bunch of Bruins that hope the break doesn't mess up their mojo. Obviously Tim Thomas is having a year for the ages, but guys like Lucic and Bergeron have also been playing very well. The Bruins are going to need Bergeron (8 goals, 7 assists and a +13 rating in his last 11 games) to keep is going, because we have no idea when Savard could be back.

Boston is just a better team then Carolina, plus they are actually a better road team then a home team. I expect the Bruins to win easily tonight.

Bruins win 4-2
Player of the Game: Patrice Bergeron
Game starts at 7pm on NESN

White Sox Extend Sexy Alexei

The Chicago White Sox have agreed to a four-year contract extension worth about 32 million dollars with Alexei Ramirez.

Good, my Cuban brethren deserves the extension. I didn't realize this but Ramirez led American League shortstops this past season in batting average (.282), slugging percentage (.431), home runs (18) and total bases (252). He is the first shortstop in White Sox history to win a Silver Slugger Award. Pretty good, and he is very consistent with how he performs. He also is good for an awesome web gem here and there too.

TOP 25 UNDER 25 - #24 Shaun White

SHAUN WHITE, Professional Snowboarder/Skateboarder/Olympic Gold Medalist, USA

I promise this will be the last of the "non-traditional" athletes on the list. The remaining 23 guys will be from the 4 major American sports. That being said White has accomplished more in his young career than perhaps all of the other athletes on the list combined. One could also make an argument that he is the most recognizable on the list.

As if hurtling yourself out of a half pipe with a board strapped to your feet wasn't enough of a challenge, White has been pushing his body to the limit since birth. Born with a congenital heart defect, he underwent two open-heart surgeries before the age of one.

White, also affectionately known as "The Flying Tomato" and "Animal" (as in the Muppets character) for his signature red flowing locks, is best known for his accomplishments at the Olympics and the Winter X-Games. In fact, the Winter X-Games have nearly become synonymous with Shaun White. The two can hardly be separated. Much like Tony Hawk, who is a mentor to White, the young phenom was able to take a fringe sport - and one that was associated with a certain slacker stereotype - and make it mainstream and popular with people from all walks of life. Shaun White passes "the mom test", which means you know he's a huge star when your mom knows who he is when you're watching the X-Games.

In 2006 at the Winter Olympics in Torino, White captured his first Olympic gold in the half pipe, officially putting him on the map with mainstream America. However, White was well-known amongst snowboard and skateboard fans well before then. He was the first athlete to compete in both Summer and Winter X and win in different sports. A sponsored rider at the age of 7, White has won a medal at the Winter X-games every year since 2002. In fact he has two separate streaks of 4 straight golds in a Winter X event (super pipe and slope style). He is the most decorated athlete in X-games history.

He really became a mainstay on the national scene with his Gold Medal win in Vancouver in 2010, also in the half-pipe.

Aside from the USA/Canada hockey battle, Shaun White was arguably the biggest American story at the games. His popularity soared, and he hasn't looked back since.

Shaun White dominates his sport unlike any other athlete on this list of young stars. White dropping into a half-pipe is like Mo Rivera toeing the rubber in the 9th. Game over. His career accolades are littered with firsts and records, and he is credited with inventing numerous maneuvers in both skateboarding and snowboarding.

His ripe age of 24, his determination to keep winning and continue to evolve the sport and his likable personality add up to a very bright future. Much like his altitude in the pipe, his career is headed upward.

Check out this clip from the 2011 X-games last week. Questionable outfit. But don't question the result. *editor's note - don't know who long that link will stay up. as of posting date, XGames had not loaded a clip of the run for some reason.

The Sox Should Start Worrying About The Recent Moves Made By The Yankees

The New York Yankees have reached an agreement on a minor league contract with pitcher Freddy Garcia, a baseball source told ESPN.com.

Garcia will receive a $1.5 million base salary if he makes the big league club. He can earn $3.6 million in possible incentives, topping out at 30 starts, according to a source. It also lets Garcia opt out by March 29, according to a report. ESPN

I like Freddy Garcia but are the Yankees serious with these minor league deals? Are they really going to throw Freddy Garcia and Bartolo Colon as their 4, 5 starters. Freddy is a solid pitcher and went 12-6 last year for the White Sox, but he will get lit up in the AL East. He shouldn't be any worse then Javier Vazquez, but still, this can't be their answer.

Troy Polamalu Wins Defensive MVP

Troy Polamalu won his second defensive MVP edging Green Bay linebacker Clay Matthews. Pittsburgh safety Polamalu received 17 votes Monday from a nationwide panel of 50 media members who cover the league, edging Green Bay linebacker Matthews by two votes.

Matthews had 60 tackles, 13½ sacks (fourth in league), an interception return for a touchdown, Polamalu had 63 tackles, 7 Interceptions and 1 sack. It's funny because both of them are squaring off in the Superbowl. The last Steelers defensive MVP (James Harrison)had one of the most legendary defensive plays in the history of the NFL, I'd expect the same from Troy.

Which leads me to my next point, SMack, BMack's dad. As we know Bob and his dad are both die hard Packers fans and they should get ready for more let downs, because this will be the first of many. The Packers have been rolling on a soft NFC North Schedule then out played Vick's Eagles, a pretend Falcons team and almost lost to a Caleb Hanie led Bears team. They also have a bye that could throw them off too. Pittsburgh is built for the post season and with only one starting offensive lineman they will be able to stop a soft Packers team.

I can't wait for you to hang up your Aaron Rodger's jersey and your gay ass invisible championship belt up after Sunday.
