Is It Racist?

A's @ Red Sox Preview

The Red Sox have been getting back on track in recent weeks, but they really need Lackey (tonight's pitcher) to start playing a lot better. The good news is that Lackey has dominated the A's in his career (16-4 2.76 ERA). It doesn't get much better then those stats right there.

It won't be easy tonight for the Sox as they go against Gio Gonzalez who has finally figured out how to control his stuff. Gio is looking for his 3rd straight win. He is 5-3 with a 3.54 ERA, and I don't like this matchup for the Sox since he is a lefty strikeout pitcher.

Still, I think the Sox win tonight. They have been on a roll (winning 10 of their last 13), and although the A's are in first place in the AL West they are only 10-15 on the road.

Boston win 5-4
Player of the game: Beltre

Game starts at 7:10pm on NESN.

Here is a look at the Sox lineup...

Marco Scutaro SS
Dustin Pedroia 2B
Victor Martinez C
Kevin Youkilis 1B
David Ortiz DH
Adrian Beltre 3B
J.D. Drew RF
Bill Hall LF
Darnell McDonald CF

Pitching: RHP John Lackey (5-3, 4.84).

Westbrook To Pick New Team Soon

Brian Westbrook is rumored to be close to signing with a new team. The problem is that no one seems to know, which one. Reports indicate that he is picking between the Redskins, Broncos, and Rams.

I really don't get the Redskins one. They have a bunch of RBs, and really don't have much use for Westbrook. I think a lot of it is just his tie with McNabb, and nothing will come of it. The Rams also don't make a lot of sense to me, since Westbrook would have 0% chance of even making the playoffs.

That leaves the Broncos. Sure they aren't the best, but at least they are competitive, and there is somewhat of a need there. So, if it is between these 3 teams the Broncos by far make the most sense.

DC's PSA About Guns

Dueling Couches would like to take a second and talk about gun safety. After watching Plaxico Burress shoot himself and now this story...

"Police say a man accidentally shot himself in the testicles at a Lynnwood department store. Police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions says the man was carrying his handgun in his waistband and it accidentally went off about noon Sunday. She says he was wounded in the testicles and also in his leg and foot. No one else was hurt (mynorthwest.com)."

People, I know in the movies people have guns in their waistband, and it looks cool, but waitbands are just not really a good place to have a gun. It's unstable, so if you're going to do it at least have it in the back, because getting shot in the dick is just weak...

Why Not?

Why not take off during a thunderstorm?

Indy 500/Coca-Cola 600 Recaps

Right, you don't like racing, so move on to another post, hater.

Dario Franchitti led 155 of 200 laps to claim his second Indy 500 title. The race ended under caution for the 13th time since 1940, which will spark some conversation. But Franchitti had the best car all day long, and was rewarded for staying in front.

Pole-sitter Helio Castroneves finished 9th. Danica Patrick worked her way up from the 23rd starting spot to finish 6th.

When you hear the name Dario Franchitti, you expect some Italian guy. Nope.

Dude's Scottish. Yeah. And he's married to Ashley Judd.

The NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 did not end in caution, but the winner was just as dominant. Kurt Busch led 252 of 400 laps, including the all-important last lap. He won by a pretty healthy margin. Points-leader Kevin Harvick salvaged an 11th place finish.

Stephen Strasburg To Debut June 8th

The Nationals have finally announced that Stephen Strasburg will make his MLB debut against Pittsburgh on June 8 at Nationals Park. Going against the Pirates is a great way to break Strasburg into the major, since they are basically a AAA team anyways.

There is so much hype around this kid that you have to get nervous, but from everything I have seen and heard this kid is the real deal. I expect that he will be a top 10 pitcher in the NL by the end of this year, and will be in the Cy Young race starting next year. Yea, the kid is just THAT good.

Strasburg, the No. 1 pick in last year's draft, is 3-1 with a 1.27 ERA in five Triple-A starts. In 10 minor league starts, including five with Double-A Harrisburg, Strasburg is 6-2 with a 1.43 ERA, with 60 strikeouts in 50 1/3 innings.

Incredible. Who would have thought I'd ever be pumped about seeing a Washington Nationals game?

Why Not?

Stanley Cup Roundup: Day 48

Well the Blackhawks are up 2-0, but just by a hair. Game 1 was an 11 goal mistake-fest. Game 2 was a 3 goal squeaker.

CHICAGO 2, PHILADELPHIA 1 (Blackhawks lead series 2-0)

The difference was goaltending. Leighton was good, not great. Niemi was stellar. He carried the Blackhawks in the 3rd period, as Philly bombarded him with shots from all angles. But to be honest, Chicago should be worried. Maybe not worried. Concerned. They looked a lot like the Bruins in that 3rd period. Hesitant, cautious, careful. It's one thing to be conservative, it's another to be so scared to make a bad pass that you keep the puck in a bad spot, allowing your opponent to force a turnover and breakaway up ice.

But I'll give credit to Philly for that too. They're aggressive. Defensive zone faceoff with 19 seconds left and Laviolette keeps Leighton on the bench. Man that was awesome. And if Chicago wants to win this series, they'll have to be aggressive when they're leading, not passive.

And by the way, both Pronger and Ben Eager received 10 minute penalties at the conclusion of regulation. I didn't see what happened, but I doubt there will be any disciplinary repercussions.

Game 3 Wednesday night on NBC.

PS: Michael Jordan's people changed the skates on his statue from Reeboks to Nikes.

Celtics 96, Magic 84

The parallels were eventually inescapable. Although the National Sports Media did bandy the story about quite prematurely (they talked about a 3-0 collapse after the Celtics won Game 3, a bit early, don't ya think?). But the Celtics aren't the Bruins. Nor are the Magic akin to the Flyers.

And beating Orlando, the 2nd seed in the East, is an accomplishment that should be appreciated. The C's won 2 games down in Florida. And guess what, it's taken them fewer games to get to the Finals than it did in '08 (17 to 20).

Game 6 was a team-effort-victory, something the individually oriented clubs in the East (the Cleveland LeBrons, the Miami Wades, the Orlando Howards) simply couldn't match.

Dwight Howard did have 28 points. But none of his mates had more than 20. Only two others scored in double digits, as the Celtics' defense stuffed the Magcis' vaunted 3-point offense, challenging the deep shots, and forcing the Magic to play a professional offense.

The C's, for their part, hit their shots, especially their 3-pointers (10 for 22 as a team). Pierce was still on fire, scoring 31 points, including four 3-pointers. Ray Allen quietly amassed 20 points, KG somehow managed 10.

Rajon Rondo "only" had 14, but they all came early, when the Celtics' offense was still struggling. He was a one-man fastbreak and aggressively penetrated the Magics' defensive core. Then he fell awkwardly on his butt, and it was Nate Robinson time.

Have you ever seen anyone as fired up as Robinson got? It was borderline obnoxious, especially his post-foul jubilations. But he got the job done, allowing Rondo to lie belly-down on the sidelines without jeopardizing the lead. In 13 minutes, Robinson had 13 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists.

All this being said, Kevin Garnett had a forgettable game. The only thing memorable was one of the dumbest fouls you'll see in NBA Playoff history. Just chopping down on a guy's arm. Twice! Right in front of the referee. Although why didn't the ref call it the first time? NBA refs are cowards.

KG needs to improve if the Celtics want to beat LA. But how much can he improve? How much of his recent mediocrity is due to his health? That's a question which will need to be answered on the court starting Thursday.

Celtics vs. Lakers
